Principal Pipe Stress Engineer Section Leader [2336]
ECI Group, the world’s leading specialist engineering contractor for low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) projects, has identified an immediate need for an experienced and knowledgeable Principal Pipe Stress Engineer | Section Leader in our Baton Rouge office. Your Role With The Company:
- This position reports directly to the Global Piping & Stressing Engineering Manager
- The role will involve responsibility for set-up of stressing activities, leading teams on larger jobs, performing stress calculations and working with Global lead to produce company standard / tools.
- Provide active oversight of project engineering work including technical support, technical quality assurance, technical design/project reviews and prevention of over design.
- Identify & Implement lessons learned across projects, communicate internally and incorporate into documentation / working practices.
- Work with other Principal Piping Engineers and Global Lead to integrate and develop a common understanding and work practice across multiple locations.
- When required act as Project Manager or Lead Engineer on specified projects / proposals in accordance with Company Management System.
- Prepare Basic & Complex engineering deliverables in accordance with Company Management Systems, current legislation, Design Codes (ASME B31.3, ASME VIII, etc.) and relevant international standards.
- Check Basic & Complex engineering deliverables produced by others in accordance with Company Management System against current legislation, Design Code (ASME B31.3, ASME VIII, etc.) and relevant International Standards.
- Apply in-depth subject matter / technical knowledge to resolve complex or unusual engineering and design problems.
- Provide technical information in support of the project team.
- Attend technical design/project reviews to ensure compliance with customers’ needs and QHSE requirements.
- Expand and maintain knowledge of the latest standards, legislation, products, and practices relating to the relevant engineering discipline to reinforce professional competency
- Implement assigned engineering work within the budget and project timescale
- Commercial awareness of the impact of changes in scope, budget, and schedule overruns.
- Departmental Planning and organization activities.
- Mentoring other piping engineering professionals.
- Manage scope, budgets and schedules on small projects as required.
- Comply with the Company Management System and QHSE requirements
- Identify and present training and learning opportunities (both individual and departmental) for consideration.
- Maintain knowledge of the latest standards, legislation, products and practices relating to the relevant engineering discipline to reinforce professional competency.

- Work with other Principal Piping Engineers, Stress Specialists and Global Manager to ensure the organization retains and develops the key skills and knowledge for continued success.
- Provide mentorship to younger/junior engineers within the organization
- Provide input into the selection and recruitment of new staff to meet the business needs
Background Profile:
- Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering and PE License in Texas and Louisiana required.
- 15+ years of experience in various Piping engineering roles (At least 10 years working as a dedicated Stressing Engineer)
- Must have a minimum of 5 yrs experience leading a team of pipe stress engineers.
- Extensive experience in Stressing Jacketed Piping Systems, Vibrating / Pulsating Pipework (Connected to Reciprocating Machinery), Highly Loaded Pressure Relief Pipework & Supporting thereof.
- Experience with Fatigue Analysis. Wind Loading / Seismic Calculations, etc.
- Hand Calculations from First Principles to Resolve Technical Issues
- High pressure (>300 barg) Piping & Tubing experience.
- Extensive & Detailed knowledge of & experience with industry standard Stress Analysis Software (Caesar II).
- An in depth understanding of the ASME piping design codes (ASME B31.3, B31.1, BPVC, etc.), ASTM, API, BS, EN, ISO, DIN material and manufacturing specifications and standards. ASME B31.3 Chapter IX High Pressure Piping experience preferred.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Experience in engineering design of oil & gas, petrochemical or plastics (e.g. LDPE) plants.
- Preferred experience in Pipe Support Design & Calculations
- Broad expertise in process plant, piping design, fabrication and erection, safety and environmental issues with some site experience.
- Must be capable as working as part of a close-knit small core team as well as being self-reliant with the confidence to make decisions acting on their own initiative.
- General understanding of the entire cradle to grave workflow for an EPC Project, interdepartmental dependencies, recognition of the importance of TIC rather than individual constituents that make up the whole.
